Welcome
to Art in the Greater Yelm Community
"Where
the world ceases to be the scene of our personal hopes and wishes, where
we face it as
free
beings, asking and
observing,
there we enter the realm of Art and Science."

Yelm Community Schools Arts Consortia
|
|
The
Arts Consortia is sponsored by the Washington State Arts Commission,
the Yelm Prairie Arts Association, the Yelm Community Schools
and members of the Yelm community. ACT is an
acronym
for Art-Community-Teachers and the number that follows the name represents
how many years the group has been operational.
The primary goal of The Arts
Consortia
is to bring quality visual arts programs to as many and eventually all the
students and teachers in the Yelm Community Schools and to provide art
experiences for the community. Get the details here -
YPAA Calendar and post a message on the
YPAA Message Board or, visit the Arts
Consortia page by clicking here. Every
May the Arts Consortia puts on a week of exhibits and special events in
collaboration with the community in order to show the great
accomplishments of the students and teachers of the community.
Professional artists are also invited to participate and many, many local
businesses provide exhibit space. The local and area newspapers
highlights the arts throughout the week. More information about the

Our Mission
Opera Pacifica (Opera Pacifica Education
and Repertory Association) is a Non-Profit organization serving
south-western Washington including the areas of Olympia, Lacey, Hoquiam
Centralia and Chehalis, Fort Lewis and Yelm. Opera Pacifica was founded
on March 20, 2002.
It is our goal and mission to perform a
minimum of two major operas per year, hold regular recitals, perform at
various fundraisers and community events, conduct classes for young
people in music appreciation and performance, conduct lecture series
with performance examples for school children and at adult education
classes.
It is our intention to create a conduit
for mentoring apprentice singers and instrumentalists, as well as set,
costume, and lighting designers, sound engineers, stage managers and
directors. We have already begun to place aspiring young musicians
alongside professional mentors in the orchestra and chorus.
We desire to make opera more accessible
to the communities we serve, not only through the above activities, but
also by providing scholarships to aspiring musicians and free lectures
and discounted performances to seniors.

The Fox Theater
Restoration Project – Centralia, Washington
Opera Pacifica has purchased the
beautiful Fox Theater
(circa 1930) in
Centralia, Washington. This elegant, historic theatre is located on the
corner of South Tower and Locust Streets in Centralia.
Our
"come as we are" performance, Let Freedom Sing, was held at
The Fox on September 11, 2004 and marked the first live performance at
the Fox in over 50 years! We hope this will be the beginning of many
performances — both live and on screen.
Watch the progress and read more about the project on the
Opera Pacifica website -
